The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has demanded an apology from veteran actor Kamal Haasan over his recent remark suggesting that the Kannada language originated from Tamil.

His statement has drawn strong criticism from Kannada organizations and political parties, who called it factually incorrect and an insult to their linguistic identity.

In response to the backlash, the Karnataka Film Chamber issued a statement demanding a formal apology from Kamal Haasan, warning that his upcoming film “Thug Life” could be banned in Karnataka if he fails to do so.

Amid growing calls for a ban on the film’s release in the state, Kamal Haasan clarified that his comments were made out of love. However, his explanation failed to appease Kannada organizations, who remain upset. “Thug Life,” directed by Mani Ratnam, is scheduled for release on June 5.
