Kingdom: Netflix announces premiere date
Vijay Deverakonda’s period drama “Kingdom,” which hit theaters on July 31, is arriving on OTT much sooner than expected. While films generally debut online after at least a month in cinemas, the trend of early digital releases continues, with “Kingdom” now set to premiere on Netflix on August 27.
The film will stream in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam under the title “Kingdom,” while the Hindi version will be released as “Samrajya.”
Set largely in Sri Lanka, the Gowtam Tinnanuri directorial opened to massive numbers on its first day but quickly lost momentum at the box office. Critics and audiences alike felt the lack of strong music and weak romantic track between Vijay Deverakonda and Bhagyashri Borse diminished its appeal to younger viewers.
Produced by Naga Vamsi, the film still secured a profitable deal, with Netflix reportedly paying a handsome price for its digital rights.
