Legendary actor Superstar Krishna passes away

Legendary actor Superstar Krishna passed away on Tuesday morning. He breathed his last in Continental hospital in Hyderabad. He suffered cardiac arrest on Monday. Doctors at Continental Hospital put him on ventilator and a team of specialist doctors observed his condition. In the wee hours of Tuesday, Krishna breathed his last.

He was 79, and survived by a son, and three daughters. His son Mahesh Babu is a superstar.

In a career spanning five decades, Krishna acted in more than 350 films. He also produced and directed many super hit films. In 2009, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan award.

Krishna, who was born on May 31, 1942, made his feature film debut in 1965 with ‘Thene Manasulu’. He had played roles in mythological, drama, western, fantasy, action, spy, and historical films, among others. Altogether, he acted in more than 350 films.

Many technological firsts in the Telugu film industry are attributed to him, including the first Cinemascope film, Alluri Seetharama Raju (1974), the first Eastmancolor film, Eenadu (1982), the first 70mm film, Simhasanam (1986), and the first DTS film, Telugu Veera Levara (1995).

He also introduced the cowboy genre to Telugu cinema with ‘Mosagallaku Mosagadu’. He popularised spy thrillers in Telugu by acting in films like Gudachari 116 (1966) and Agent Gopi (1978).

He also dabbled in politics and was elected as MP. He was honored with the Padma Bhushan award and received an honorary doctorate from Andhra University. He also received NTR national award.

Krishna won Nandi Award for Best Actor for his performance in ‘Alluri Sita Rama Raju’.
