Lokesh Kanagaraj explains why he took up Allu Arjun’s film

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has opened up about various projects, and why he took up Allu Arjun’s film over superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan’s film. 

Speaking about the missed project of Rajinikanth – Kamal Hasan, Lokesh revealed that both legends approached him after the release of “Coolie” and expressed interest in doing a film with him.

Lokesh said he initially had Kaithi 2 lined up as his immediate next project. After seeking permission from the production house, he agreed to come on board for the Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan film and spent nearly one and a half months developing the script. According to him, both actors were excited about the initial draft.

However, Lokesh soon realised that the senior stars were expecting a lighter, more relaxed entertainer, especially after having done several intense action films back-to-back. Admitting that light-hearted storytelling is not his strength, Lokesh chose to be honest with the actors and respectfully stepped away from the project.

Following this decision, Karthi allocated the “Kaithi 2” slot to another director. Meanwhile, Lokesh honoured his prior commitment with Mythri Movie Makers and resumed discussions with Allu Arjun, which eventually materialised into his next project.
