It is a victory for actor Dhanush. The Madras High Court on Tuesday denied Netflix India’s request to dismiss Dhanush’s copyright claims against the documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’.
The documentary was made available on Netflix’s OTT platform on November 18. Dhanush, the producer of Nayanthara’s “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan,” filed a lawsuit alleging that behind-the-scenes material from their film was utilized without permission in the documentary.
Netflix and Nayanthara’s team contended that the Madras High Court lacks jurisdiction to hear this case, but the court rejected Netflix’s plea. The hearing in the case has been scheduled for February 5.
The documentary focussed on Nayanthara’s life, career, and marriage to director Vignesh Shivan. Prior to the documentary’s release, Nayanthara accused Dhanush of exacting personal revenge on her and her husband by refusing to grant a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) for the use of the “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan” segments.
