Matka vs. Kanguva: Varun Tej and Suriya both need success now

The next big movies to hit the screens are Varun Tej’s “Matka” and Suriya’s “Kanguva.” These two films are competing with each other. Varun Tej plays a Matka king in “Matka”, a period drama, while “Kanguva” caters to pan-Indian audiences as a fantasy film.

Suriya has been promoting “Kanguva” aggressively. Despite it being a dubbed movie, “Kanguva” generated buzz with its visuals and Suriya’s confident promotion. The film is directed by Siva.

“Matka,” directed by Karuna Kumar, has Varun Tej appearing in various looks. It is a character study.

Interestingly, both Suriya and Varun Tej have not delivered hits in the recent past. It has been a long time since Suriya’s film hit theaters. His two previous films, “Aakasam Nee Haddhu Raa” and “Jai Bhim,” debuted on OTT platforms directly. Varun Tej’s previous three films, “Ghani,” “Gandeevadhari Arjuna,” and “Operation Valentine,” tanked at the box office.
