Kamal Haasan, the iconic actor aged 70, stars opposite 42-year-old Trisha in Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film “Thug Life.” With nearly a 30-year age gap between them, their on-screen romance sparked some backlash on social media.
The intimate moments shown in the trailer are the reason for the debate.
Responding to the criticism, director Mani Ratnam dismissed the controversy, stating that age gaps in romantic relationships are a part of real life and should not be judged harshly. “Such romances happen in our lives too. We shouldn’t be so quick to judge,” he said.
Ratnam emphasized that Kamal and Trisha are playing characters, not engaging in a real-life relationship. “They are actors portraying roles. Don’t judge them without watching the film,” he advised.
In “Thug Life,” Kamal Haasan’s character is seen romancing both Trisha and Abhirami, with both actresses in their early 40s. Mani Ratnam urged audiences to view the film in its entirety before forming opinions, stressing that context is everything when it comes to storytelling.
