‘Pushpa 2’ breaks even in Ceded region

Pushpa 2

Director Sukumar and Allu Arjun’s “Pushpa 2,” the second part in the ‘Pushpa’ franchise, has already become the second highest-grossing Indian film in India after “Baahubali 2.”. Despite such massive earnings, mostly from the Hindi version, the film is far away from achieving break-even in Andhra and Telangana.

In the domestic Telugu market, “Pushpa 2” has finally achieved a break-even point in one area—Ceded. The Rayalaseema region is the only area in Telugu states that will see marginal profits. But both Andhra and Telangana are unlikely to reach the break-even stage.

Some trade pundits say the film will lose heavily in Andhra. In Telangana, the producers Naveen and Ravi have agreed to return the GST amount to the distribution firm Mythri Distribution (which has many players, including Sashi and Vivek, besides the production company owning a 30% stake in it) to cover up the losses.

The first part of “Pushpa” also lost money in Andhra. Similarly, the second part is also struggling to reach the break-even stage in Andhra and Telangana, largely due to the high prices the movie sold for.

“Pushpa 2” concluded with the hint of part 3. But the third part will not be made anytime soon because Allu Arjun will be moving on to his next film with Trivikram and Sukumar to work on Ram Charan’s film.
