Ram Charan wishes popcorn rates come down a bit

Ram Charan attended the Republic Summit 2026 in New Delhi, where he spoke about the Indian film industry, his journey as an actor, and the growing global reach of Indian cinema.

The actor said that despite the rise of multiple entertainment platforms, cinema remains the most affordable form of entertainment in the country.

“When there is a great film, people come back to theatres. In India, the cheapest form of entertainment is still cinema. The only thing I wish is that popcorn rates come down a bit,” he remarked, drawing laughter from the audience.

Ram Charan also reflected on growing up as the son of megastar Chiranjeevi and how his father ensured that stardom never became a burden during his childhood.

“My father was a very present dad. He never let the burden of his stardom affect me while I was growing up. I was largely ignorant of everything happening around me and the scale of his fame because he was just like a regular father at home. If you say ignorance is bliss, I am a classic example,” he said.

Speaking about the expectations that come with being a star kid, Ram Charan noted that audiences ultimately judge actors based on their work rather than their family background.

“The public that earns a daily wage is not going to see which actor’s son you are,” he added.

Ram Charan also emphasized the opportunities available for Indian cinema on the global stage.

“The global market is open to us. India has to be at the centre stage of the world’s entertainment industry. We all want to be a part of that journey,” he said.
