All is set for the massive release of Rajamouli’s epic drama ‘RRR’, featuring NTR and Ram Charan as freedom warriors. The trend of bookings shows that the film is set to create a record on opening day.
If the same trend continues the first weekend collections will be humungous, bigger than ‘Baahubali’. If the reviews and word-of-mouth come out strong, there will be no stopping the film after the first weekend as well.
But “RRR” has a mammoth task to achieve. The distributors in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have bagged the rights for hefty amounts. The Telangana (Nizam) rights were snapped for a whopping Rs 72 Crore. The Andhra deal was closed for 90 crores, and Ceded (Rayalaseema) went for Rs 35 crore. These agreements were done much before COVID-19 times.
There is a talk that producer DVV Danayya has agreed to give a rebate of 15% on the said agreement considering the current situation. If we take this into account, the film needs to rake in Rs 180 crore to gain profits.
The trends and the ticket rates (ticket rates were hiked abnormally in Telangana) are suggesting that the distributors will get their profits easily provided it gets strong word-of-mouth.
‘RRR’ is directed by Rajamouli and produced by Danayya. The film releases worldwide on 25th March 2022.
