Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has been facing increasing scrutiny over the significant age gap between him and his on-screen romantic interests. In his upcoming film “Sikandar,” the 59-year-old actor is paired with Rashmika Mandanna, who is 31 years younger than him.
Addressing the ongoing debate, Salman expressed frustration over the media’s constant focus on actors’ ages, stating that it has made things more complicated for senior male stars. He acknowledged that casting younger heroines opposite him, like Janhvi Kapoor, would require careful consideration.
“If I want to work with Ananya Panday or Janhvi Kapoor, I will have to think 10 times. I will think 10 times and then do it,” Salman told NDTV.
Interestingly, in the Telugu film industry, senior stars like Venkatesh, Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, and Nagarjuna continue to work with actresses significantly younger than them. For instance, Venkatesh recently paired up with Aishwarya Rajesh, who is 30 years younger than him, and Meenakshi Chaudhary, who has a 35-year age gap with him.
While such pairings remain common in South Indian cinema, Salman Khan appears to be more cautious about the perception of on-screen age differences in Bollywood.
