Now that Sekhar Kammula’s first pan-Indian venture “Kuberaa” is running successfully in theaters, the director finally seems relieved, unburdened from the immense pressure that came with mounting such a mammoth project.
As always, he plans to unwind in his signature style, taking a couple of months off to relax with his team and family. After that, he’s expected to begin work on his next script.
Buzz on social media suggests that he may team up with Nani, with reports indicating that both have agreed in principle to collaborate. Even before Kuberaa’s release, Kammula had mentioned that he and Nani had met and discussed working together, although nothing was officially locked in.
There’s also chatter that he might plan another large-scale, pan-Indian project with Nani. However, sources close to the director say that’s unlikely. “Kuberaa” didn’t find traction outside the Telugu market, and his real strength lies within that core audience. It might be wiser for him to channel his creative energy into a rooted Telugu film for even greater impact.
Whether he goes ahead with Nani, or surprises us with a youthful drama in the vein of Happy Days or Fidaa, remains to be seen.
