Sreeleela’s Tamil debut draws negative reactions

Actress Sreeleela has made her Tamil debut with “Parasakthi,” which features rising star Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. The film is directed by Sudha Kongara, best known for acclaimed films such as Guru and Aakasam Nee Haddhu Ra.
Surrounded by controversy related to censor issues and other factors, “Parasakthi” released in theatres worldwide today. However, the initial response from YouTubers and social media users has largely been negative.
Set against the backdrop of student-led resistance to Hindi imposition in Tamil Nadu during the 1960s, the political drama has received appreciation for its authentic period detailing and certain powerful sequences, particularly the interval block. That said, critics and early viewers have expressed disappointment over the film’s slow pacing, lengthy narration, and lack of emotional depth, with many branding it as tedious.
While the verdict from established critics and broader word of mouth is still awaited, the film is currently facing an uphill task, given the overwhelmingly negative reactions online.
