Tamil Sankranthi releases go low-key in Telugu market

For the first time, Tamil films are opting for a subdued approach in the Telugu market during the Sankranthi festival. Vijay’s “Jana Nayagan” and Sivakarthikeyan’s “Parasakthi” have chosen to keep their Telugu releases low-profile, clearly aware that they stand little chance amid a crowded festival lineup dominated by Telugu Sankranthi releases.

This Sankranthi season is packed with five Telugu releases, including two major biggies. High-profile films such as “The Raja Saab” and “Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu” are expected to dominate the box office, while Bhartha Maha Sahayulaku Wignyapthi, Anaganga Oka Raju and Nari Nari Naduma Murari are already commanding significant attention. With such intense competition, dubbed films have virtually no breathing space.

Adding to the challenge, “Jana Nayagan” is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster “Bhagavanth Kesari,” reducing its novelty and appeal for Telugu audiences. “Jana Nayagan” also features Pooja Hegde.

On the other hand, “Parasakthi,” despite featuring Telugu actress Sreeleela, is struggling to secure viable screens due to the festive rush.

As a result, both films have refrained from aggressive promotions in Telugu and are set for low-key releases, focusing largely on their core Tamil markets this Sankranthi.
