Veteran actor Kamal Haasan bounced back with Vikram, a record-breaking hit. Before the release of Vikram, Kamal Haasan’s films had lost their appeal in business circles, and he was in deep financial trouble. However, after its success, he is back on track, and his films continue to secure strong theatrical and OTT deals.
The recent failure of “Indian 2” (also known as Bharateeyudu 2), directed by Shankar, was a setback. With “Thug Life”, Kamal Haasan is hopeful of returning to success. He co-produced the film and is going all out to promote it. Although the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce blocked the movie’s release in Karnataka, Kamal Haasan is not backing down. He is continuing the legal fight.
The film’s advance bookings are impressive in Tamil Nadu. However, in the Telugu states, they have yet to pick up. There is no noticeable trend as of now. In Telugu, the film is expected to gain momentum once reviews and word-of-mouth start to spread. Vikram became a huge hit in Telugu thanks to strong word-of-mouth, and “Thug Life” is expected to follow a similar path.
Director Mani Ratnam has changed his style for this film, packaging it as an action drama to appeal to the current generation of audiences. Kamal Haasan is therefore very optimistic that the film will strike a chord with the paying public.
“Thug Life” stars Kamal Haasan, Simbu, Trisha and Abhirami in the lead roles and is scheduled for June 5, 2025 release.
