Director Prasanth Varma, who rose to national fame with HanuMan, seems to have landed in a tricky situation involving several top producers. Industry buzz suggests that Prasanth accepted advances from nearly ten leading production houses, each believing his “next film” would be for them.

He took advance amounts from these producers including smaller and newer producers, the total amount reportedly runs up to a staggering Rs 80–100 crore.

To manage expectations, he is said to have offered an alternative, providing the story and creative supervision instead of directing personally. But most producers are reportedly unwilling to settle for anything less than a film directed by him, and many have begun pressuring him to return the advances.

Now, with patience wearing thin, several producers are said to be planning to take the matter to the Film Chamber. Unless a compromise is reached soon, Prasanth’s future projects might face serious disruption.

Director Prasanth Varma had ambitious plans lined up, one featuring Mokshagna, son of Nandamuri Balakrishna, and another titled Jai HanuMan. However, the Mokshagna project has now been scrapped, creating fresh turbulence in the filmmaker’s career.

Meanwhile, “Jai HanuMan” is facing significant delays, while his much-talked-about collaboration with Prabhas is unlikely to take off for at least two more years. Adding to his woes, a proposed Hindi film with Ranveer Singh has also been shelved.

With multiple projects stalled and financial obligations piling up, Prasanth Varma is reportedly looking to liquidate some of his investments to repay the advance amounts owed to several producers.
