US BO: Dacoit crosses half-million-dollar mark

On its very first day, Adivi Sesh’s “Dacoit” grossed over half a million dollars in North America. The film collected more than $330K from Thursday premiere shows alone and went on to cross the $500K mark on Friday.

With Saturday and Sunday expected to be stronger, the film is now aiming for a $1 million opening weekend. Adivi Sesh has built a steady market for himself with films like “Kshanam”, “Goodachari”, “Evaru”, “Major”, and “HIT 3”. His image as an actor associated with quality cinema has consistently translated into solid openings.

While the reviews have been mixed, the initial box office performance in North America is impressive. With minimal competition this weekend, the onus is now on sustaining momentum to push the film towards bigger numbers.

Directed by cinematographer Shaneil Deo, “Dacoit” starred Mrunal Thakur as the lead heroine. The film was produced by Supriya Yarlagadda.
