US president Trump announces tariff on movies

If the U.S. President has his way, Telugu films releasing in the USA could soon face serious trouble. Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, said in a Truth Social post on Monday that he plans to impose a tariff on foreign-made movies.
He stated, “100% tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States.”
It is not yet clear whether this tariff, if implemented, would apply only to Hollywood productions filmed abroad or to all foreign films, including Indian, Korean, French, and others released in the U.S. He made a similar statement in May this year, but it was largely ignored as there was no follow-up. On Monday, he revived the proposal.
If the U.S. imposes tariffs on Telugu films, it would deal a severe blow to the overseas market and distributors. We will have to wait for further clarity on when and how such a tariff might be enforced.
