Veteran actor Chandramohan passed away. He breathed his last today. He died of cardiac arrest at Hyderabad Apollo Hospital at 9:45 a.m. He was 82, and survived by wife Jalandhara, a famous writer and two daughters.
He acted in more than 900 films in Telugu and Tamil
Chandra Mohan was introduced to the Telugu film industry through the film “Rangula Ratnam” in 1966. His performance in the film earned him the state Nandi Award for Best Actor. In addition to leading roles, Chandramohan also had comedic and supporting roles. He was able to demonstrate his versatility and intuitive acting abilities.
Some of his notable films as the lead actor are: Atmeeyulu, Jeevana Tarangalu, Ganga Manga, Siri Siri Muvva, Shankarabharanam, Subhodayam, Pakkinti Ammayi, Radha Kalyanam, Suvarna Sundari, Bangaru Pichuka, Padaharella Vayasu, Kontekapuram, etc.
He was a dependable lead actor for low-budget films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. There was also the sentiment that if an actress debuted or worked with him in the early stages of career, she would go on to greater fame as an actress. Sridevi, Jayaprada and Radhika were best examples.
His work in Padaharella Vayasu (1978) and Siri Siri Muvva (1978) earned him the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Telugu). He also won Nandi Awards as Best Character Actor and Comedian for films – Chandamama Raave (1987)and Athanokkade (2005).
As a character, too, he made a mark of his one. “Aditya 369”, “Kalikalam”, “Gulabi”, “Chiru Navvutho”, “Preminchukundam Ra”, “Ninne Pelladutha”, “7G Brindavana Colony,” etc were films that made him popular among the new generation of audiences.
