Vijay Deverakonda issued a statement today regretting if his unintended remark about ‘tribe’ hurt the sentiments and feelings of ‘scheduled tribes.’ He remarked that we are not tribes to fight mindlessly when referring to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism while condemning Pahalgam terror attacks.

He made these remarks during the pre-release event of Suriya’s “Retro,” to which he attended as a guest.

Some groups belonging to Scheduled Tribes in Telangana have filed a case against Vijay Deverakonda, urging the police to take action against him for hurting their sentiments and attributing tribes as savage people.

In his statement, Vijay Deverakonda said he didn’t refer to scheduled tribes as STs as we have known but the English dictionary word ‘tribes.’ He said centuries of human species were divided into tribes and clans. Vijay Deverakonda mentioned it as a historical context, not as scheduled tribes.

Further, he said he regrets his remark if any part of his speech became hurtful. Vijay Deverakonda reiterated he remains ‘committed to using his platform to uplift and unify—never to divide.’
