Vijay’s wife files for divorce, alleging affair with ‘actress’

Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay and one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars, has received a major jolt on the personal front. At a crucial juncture, with the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and his party gearing up to enter the fray, his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam has reportedly filed for divorce, alleging that he was involved in an affair with an actress.

In her petition, Sangeetha stated that in April 2021 she discovered that her husband was engaged in an “adulterous relationship with an actress,” which caused her “deep emotional pain and mental suffering.” She mentioned that they had attempted to resolve the issue amicably through counseling, but no reconciliation was achieved.

She further accused Vijay of emotionally, mentally, and physically neglecting her and of having “withdrawn conjugal relations.” According to the petition, the couple has been living separately for several years, despite legally remaining husband and wife.

The timing of the filing has drawn attention. Rumours about Vijay and Sangeetha’s separation have circulated for years. Recently, a politician made a remark asking Vijay to “come out of Trisha’s home,” dragging actress Trisha Krishnan into the controversy. Trisha responded through her lawyer, urging political parties not to involve her in political games.

With Vijay preparing to begin his electoral battle, the divorce petition is likely to create political ripples and could dent his image among certain sections. It remains to be seen how he handles this personal issue ahead of the elections.
