Weekend BO: Bholaa Shankar a disaster, Jailer a blockbuster

To capitalize on the Independence Day holiday, a Telugu blockbuster, a star-studded dubbed film, and a small-Telugu film were released in theaters last weekend. Megastar Chiranjeevi starrer “Bholaa Shankar” was promoted aggressively. The film was doomed from the start due to negative word-of-mouth.

“Bholaa Shankar” turned out to be one of the biggest flops in recent memory.

During the Sankranthi season this year, Chiranjeevi had a huge blockbuster with “Waltair Veerayya.” However, this film put him in an embarrassing situation because theaters began showing a deserted look on the second day. The result is uniform in all areas from Anakapalli to America, from Hyderabad to Houston.

“Bholaa Shankar” will lose more than Rs 80 crore. What a disaster!

“Bholaa Shankar” received a disgraceful revenue in the United States. “Waltair Veerayya” earned more than $600k from premiere shows, while “Bholaa Shankar” failed to break $500k after the weekend’s run.

Jailer turns out to be a blockbuster

Jailer

On the other hand, “Jailer” was a surprise box office success. The Rajinikanth-starrer received poor promotion. It had low expectations prior to its release. However, the film’s popularity skyrocketed after positive word of mouth spread. Furthermore, “Bholaa Shankar” flopping badly aided it. In Nizam, the film grossed a whopping Rs 8 crore in its first weekend. The combined share of AP and Telangana is around Rs 17 crore.

“Jailer” made nearly $4 million in its first weekend in the United States, setting a new record for a Tamil film.

No takers for Ustaad

A low-budget film titled “Ustaad” starring Sri Simha Koduri, music director MM Keeravani’s younger son, was unable to find an audience. It’s a bad idea to release this small film alongside two biggies. As a result, it was unable to collect even a respectable number.
