Saptagiri Express – Movie Review

What’s the Story?
Saptagiri (Saptagiri) is a short film actor of caliber.  As he wastes his father’s hard earned money on making short films, he is constantly scolded by his constable dad.  The comic gang leader in the street can’t wear the uniform, which he ridicules as gurkha dress.

But there comes that fateful day when the sincere constable dad is murdered by Manikyam, a most wanted criminal having secret links with the DSP (Posani).

Why was he killed?  Will Saptagiri now take his dad’s mantle or pursue his filmi dreams?  Will the criminals be taught a lesson?  That is the rest of the movie.

What Works!
The film heavily depends on gigs.  Thanks to the quirks of Saptagiri, friend Shakalaka Shankar (a trusted lieutenant) and Ali (in a cameo, he plays a funny doc operating on mutilated hands as if he is doing tailoring), the portions pass muster here and there.

Although the father has no much impact on us individually, the scene where he is wowed by Saptagiri’s acting talent is good.

What Doesn’t Work!
– The film suffers from a mediocre screenplay.  It’s once again the media which the hero uses in achieving his agenda.  We have seen this N number of times.  Elements like gay comedy border on the cheap.

– The director fails to keep up the momentum after Saptagiri discovers what went wrong with his dad.

– The heroine (model Roshini Prakash debuts) looks clueless even as the director is heartless with respect to the love track. 

– The songs seem to be too long in this film with a run time of hardly 120 mins.

Performance Score
Saptagiri walks away with fair marks.  He essays the Emantivi Emantivi monologue in an admirable way.  He also gets the sentimental act well.  Ali and Shakalaka should come next. 

Final Verdict
The narration is amateurish.  There are appalling technical flaws in many scenes.  Lacks proper projection of its emotional strength.  An outdated story.  Saptagiri puts up a noteworthy effort.
