BO: Ramani Kalyanam, Purushaha flop; Drishyam 3 holds

Last weekend saw the release of two small-budget Telugu films, “Ramani Kalyanam” and “Purushaha”, along with the Telugu-dubbed Malayalam thriller “Drishyam 3”. However, none of the new arrivals managed to generate significant excitement at the box office.
Both “Ramani Kalyanam” and “Purushaha” failed to attract audiences and ended up as washouts during their opening weekend. In contrast, “Drishyam 3” posted respectable numbers despite minimal promotions in the Telugu market.
The Mohanlal-starrer collected around Rs 4 crore net in the Telugu states during its first weekend. For a Malayalam film released without aggressive marketing, the performance is considered decent. More than Mohanlal’s star power, it is the strong brand value of the “Drishyam” franchise that appears to have driven audiences to theatres.
Meanwhile, Suriya’s “Veerahadrudu” (Karuppu) continued its impressive run. Benefiting from the absence of major Telugu star-driven releases, the film maintained steady momentum and kept drawing crowds.
The dubbed action drama has reportedly crossed Rs 12 crore share in the Telugu states, making it one of Suriya’s strongest performers in recent years. The success of both “Veerabhadrudu” and “Drishyam 3” indicates that popular stars from neighboring industries are currently filling the gap left by the lack of big-ticket Telugu releases.
