Nandamuri Balakrishna and Boyapati’s ‘Akhanda’ finally arrived in the theaters on December 2. The film was expected to do well, given the hype surrounding it. Surprising box-office pundits, it went on to post big numbers. It has created a mini storm at the box office. The film has done much better than the expectations.
Audiences across the Telugu states reached cinema halls to enjoy the experience of watching a mass entertainer on the big screen after a long gap. The film has received the biggest opening in Balakrishna’s career.
It has given a boost to the theatrical business. Other biggies which are scheduled to hit the theaters in the coming weeks can now confidently and aggressively push their movies.
The mass entertainer has raked in a gross of Rs 2.25 ($332k) in the USA. The film has raked in about Rs 4 crore in Nizam, which is a record in Balakrishna’s career.
Despite certain limitations on the number of shows in Andhra Pradesh, the film was screened at higher rates than the government imposed rates. Thus the figures will be huge in Andhra Pradesh. But the ‘official’ number of the collection will be modest though it collected strongly.
