Dhurandhar all set to break Baahubali 2 record

Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar,” released on December 5, continues its sensational run even after completing a full month in theatres. The film is still minting money across domestic circuits as well as North America. Last weekend alone, it grossed close to one million dollars, taking its total North American collection to around 19 million dollars.

The film is now just a step away from crossing the 20 million dollar mark and is on the verge of breaking the long-standing record set by “Baahubali 2” in 2017.

If “Dhurandhar” manages to surpass it, the achievement will be truly remarkable. Unlike “Baahubali 2,” this is neither a franchise sequel nor a VFX-heavy fantasy spectacle. It is an A-rated action spy film that released with relatively modest expectations.

Once it crosses 20 million dollars, “Dhurandhar” will become the first Hindi film to achieve this milestone in North America. Until now, the list of top-grossing Indian films in the region has been dominated by Telugu cinema, including the all-time highest grosser. A Bollywood film claiming the top spot would mark a significant shift.

The success of “Dhurandhar” in North America is even more impressive considering its ticket prices. The film has been running with average admission rates of around 12 dollars, whereas Telugu big-budget films often price tickets between 20 and 30 dollars. In terms of footfalls, “Dhurandhar” has likely attracted a much larger audience than “Baahubali 2.”
