North America: Peddi set to become Ram Charan’s biggest opener?

Ram Charan remains one of Telugu cinema’s biggest stars, with blockbusters such as “Magadheera” and “Rangasthalam” ranking among the industry’s all-time highest-grossing films. However, the actor has been searching for a solid solo hit in recent years.

After the phenomenal success of “RRR”, directed by SS Rajamouli and co-starring NTR, Ram Charan’s subsequent release, “Game Changer”, turned out to be a major disappointment at the box office. The film performed poorly across territories, particularly in North America.

Despite its overall failure, “Game Changer” still recorded the biggest opening day collections among Ram Charan’s solo films in North America, grossing $1.39 million on Day 1, including premiere shows. The premieres alone contributed nearly $1 million.

Now, trade circles believe “Peddi” has the potential to surpass that benchmark and emerge as the biggest opener of Ram Charan’s career in the North American market. While advance bookings have started on a moderate note, exhibitors and distributors expect a significant surge in sales during the final two to three days before release.

The film premieres in North America on June 3. If “Peddi” crosses the $1 million mark from premiere shows alone, it stands a strong chance of overtaking the Day 1 collections of “Game Changer” and setting a new opening record for Ram Charan.

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, “Peddi” stars Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead. Veteran actor Jagapathi Babu, who plays the pivotal role of Appalasuri, recently expressed confidence that Ram Charan’s performance could earn him a National Award. The film features music by AR Rahman and is produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru.
