After the festive highs of Sankranthi 2026, the Telugu box office has entered a prolonged dry spell. None of the films released after the festival have managed to emerge as commercial successes.
During Sankranthi, Chiranjeevi’s “Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu” and “Anaganaga Oka Raju” turned out to be hits, while “Nari Nari Naduma Murari” performed at an average level. The festival season provided much-needed momentum to the industry.
However, the weeks that followed painted a different picture.
Films such as “Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi” starring Tharun Bhascker and Eesha Rebba, Vishwak Sen’s “Funky,” Gunasekhar’s “Euphoria,” Santosh Sobhan’s “Couple Friendly,” along with “Hey Balwanth” and “Nawab Cafe,” hit theatres. Unfortunately, none of them managed to register strong openings.
Among these, “Euphoria” and “Couple Friendly” received positive reviews, while “Hey Balwanth” earned marks for its comedy. Despite the encouraging word of mouth, the box office collections remained underwhelming.
“Couple Friendly” did witness a boost in its second weekend collections, thanks to promotional support from Prabhas. However, the overall gross still fell short compared to the praise it garnered.
With back-to-back underperformers after the festive season, it appears that Tollywood is currently navigating a dull phase at the box office. The industry now awaits a strong release to revive momentum.
