With the Sankranthi season set to conclude in two more days, the North American box office has witnessed a strong run for Telugu cinema. Out of the five Telugu releases this festive window, four films are performing reasonably well: some building steady momentum, others managing to recover a major share of their investment.
The lone disappointment among the Telugu releases is Prabhas’ “The Raja Saab.” Despite collecting over $2 million in North America, the film has turned out to be a huge dud, resulting in heavy losses for distributors due to its high acquisition costs.
Leading the pack is Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu (MSG), which has emerged as the top grosser of the season in the US. Naveen Polishetty’s Anaganga Oka Raju (AOR) holds the second position with a solid performance. Nari Nari Naduma Murari (NNM) has shown an impressive surge to third place, even though it arrived relatively late in the festive race. Ravi Teja’s Bhartha Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi (BMW) has also posted decent and respectable numbers.
North America Grosses (as of now):
Among non-Telugu releases, the Tamil film “Parasakthi” is struggling to cross the half-million-dollar mark in North America. Meanwhile, Bollywood biggie “Dhurandhar”, despite having already crossed the massive $20 million milestone, has shown minimal growth in recent days, largely impacted by the strong presence of Telugu films during the Sankranthi season.
