Last weekend saw the release of “Raakaasa” and “Biker”, both of which opened to largely average response at the box office. However, “Raakaasa” managed to gain a slight edge over “Biker”, surprising trade circles.
“Raakaasa”, starring Sangeeth Shobhan and Nayan Sarika, is a comedy horror that doesn’t boast a strong storyline. Yet, its light humor appears to have worked in its favor, helping it draw better footfalls. The film performed stronger in both the Telugu states and North America.
In its opening weekend, “Raakaasa” collected Rs 9.10 crore gross in India and an additional Rs 2.25 crore in North America, taking its total worldwide gross to around Rs 11.35 crore. Aggressive promotions by the team also contributed to its visibility.
On the other hand, “Biker” collected Rs 9.02 crore gross in India and Rs 1.55 crore in North America, with its worldwide total standing at Rs 10.57 crore.
Despite receiving relatively better reviews from critics, the Sharwanand-starrer “Biker” has struggled to convert that into box office numbers. Audience turnout has remained lukewarm for this sports drama, and it now faces an uphill task in the coming days, requiring strong collections to sustain its run.
