Weekend BO: ‘Samajavaragamana’ clicks, ‘Spy’ fails

Last weekend, about a half-dozen Telugu films were released, with Nikhil Siddhartha’s “Spy” and Sree Vishnu’s “Samajavaragamana” being the main ones. “Spy” was released amid high expectations and had a stunning opening day, demonstrating that Nikhil Siddhartha has recently gained a strong following.

However, the film was not only panned by critics, but it also received negative reaction from audiences. After exploding at the box office on the first day in both Telugu states and the United States of America, the film saw a steep drop on the second day. Following that, there was no regain in collections. “Spy” was a flop by the end of the long weekend.

However, the scene of “Samajavaragamana” differs from that of “Spy”. The film had low expectations, and the opening day box office was also on the lowerside. However, positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth helped the film win. Collections increased on day two and three. On Sunday (day 4), there were houseful collections everywhere.

By the end of the extended weekend, “Samajavaragamana” had amassed good collection and is now considered a hit.

“Spy” made $330k in the United States, while “Samajavaragamana” made a whopping $365k. At the USA box-office, the latter is a blockbuster.
