The first weekend box office figures for Sai Dharam Tej’s “Virupaksha” surprised everyone. On the first day, the film had a typical opening. However, the Saturday and Sunday collections are impressive for a film of this genre. The film is on track to become a smash hit.
“Virupaksha” has already become a box office success in the United States.
The film raked in nearly Rs 16 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It collected Rs 2.80 crore ($780k approx.) in the United States. The first weekend collections are estimated to be Rs 36 crore (total worldwide gross), with the share being Rs 20 crore.
The “Virupaksha” performed particularly well in two regions: Nizam (Telangana) and the United States. Traditionally, genre films perform well in these markets. The film’s biggest challenge will be maintaining momentum over next few days. Given the strong first weekend box office, it has a good chance of becoming a super hit.
“Virupaksha” was directed by Karthik Dandu and starred Sai Dharam Tej and Samyuktha. The film is a hit for producer BVSN Prasad. Sukumar who provided the screenplay is having dream run with his movies directed by his former associates.
