How nervous are you about the film’s rele ase?

I was very confident until the pre-release event as all those who saw the film had only good things to say. But seeing the hype for the film, I am a bit tensed now. I want to see the reaction of the audience on the first day of the release as I have worked so hard on the film.

How did you bag the film?

I am a south Indian who is born and brought up in Mumbai. My love for modeling made me look for assignments, and after doing a few Ads, I got a call from (director) Buchi Babu. He did not confirm me until three months as only discussions were on. Once I landed with my mother in Hyderabad, things fell into place.

Everyone is raving about your performance. How do you feel?

Any appreciation that comes my way is only because of the director Buchi Babu garu. He was the one who held my hand and taught me Telugu. He saw what I could do and asked me to perform in a specific way. I had a lot of trouble during the first week of the shoot, but Vaishnav and Vijay sir helped me a lot. I cannot forget the day when Sukumar sir complimented me for my performance.

Your chemistry with Tej looks superb. Tell us about it?

It has happened because we have been together from day one of the story narration. We have trained and traveled a lot with the characters that things have fallen into place automatically. Tej has helped me a lot during the making and has been a strong support. I am super confident that the audience will love our Jodi.

Were you intimidated by Vijay Sethupathi?

I clearly remember the day where I had this lengthy scene to shoot with him. Seeing my tension, he eased me a bit and allowed me to perform in my way. Vijay sir is one of the cool persons around and has no air about his star status.

What is your take on the Telugu cinema?

Even though I am a south Indian, I had no idea about south films. I never watched anyone of them. When I got this offer, I didn’t even know who Vaishnav Tej was. The only person I knew was Chiranjeevi garu, and that too because of his dubbed films in Hindi. But I am surprised by the way everyone has treated me here with the utmost respect.

Future Projects in Telugu?

I have started shooting for Nani’s ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ and also have signed Sudheer Babu’s next. In the last few days, I have been offered many films and will take a call once ‘Uppena’ is released.
