Shivani Nagaram on ‘Hey Balwanth’ and career choices

With “Hey Balwanth” (earlier titled “Hey Bhagawan”) gearing up for release on February 20, actress Shivani Nagaram spoke about the film, working with Suhas, and her approach to cinema. Here are the key highlights…
Tell us about “Hey Balwanth” and your role...
This is my second film with Suhas after “Ambajipeta Marriage Band” and the third in my career. It’s a light-hearted entertainer filled with fun. The father-son emotion towards the end will really connect with audiences. My character blends innocence with comedy. The interval bang will be a pleasant surprise.
How was it working with Suhas again?
I always choose the best story that comes to me. Working with Suhas is always fun. He is friendly, supportive, and a brilliant actor. Our pairing will surely entertain audiences.
We heard you are also a singer. Is that true?
Yes, I learned Kuchipudi and music. I’m actually a singer-turned-actor. I did a humming bit in “Little Hearts” and sang a song in “Aarambham.” I’m open to singing more if good opportunities come my way.
How are you handling offers after the success of “Little Hearts”?
I take success as motivation and move on to the next project. But I accept a film only if I genuinely like the story. I focus on how important my role is and whether I connect with the script.

How do you see opportunities for Telugu girls in cinema?
I’m very happy. There are more writers and directors now, and Telugu girls are getting better opportunities. The gap between small and big films is shrinking. I want to be known for choosing good films rather than doing projects continuously.
What are your upcoming projects?
Since my films are streaming on OTT platforms, I’m receiving offers from other languages as well. Currently, two Tamil and two Telugu films are in the discussion stage.
