Legendary music composer AR Rahman released a video statement following heavy backlash over his recent comments on alleged communal bias in Bollywood. In the video, Rahman stated that intentions are sometimes misunderstood and reiterated his deep respect for India.

It may be recalled that in a recent BBC interview, the Oscar-winning composer hinted that the limited number of film offers he received over the past eight years could be due to a power shift in the industry and possible communal bias.

His remarks were interpreted by many as suggesting that he was being sidelined because of his religion. However, the comments did not go down well with netizens, who strongly criticised the composer, stating that Indian audiences and the film industry have always embraced him irrespective of his faith.

Following the widespread backlash on social media and demands from certain sections to remove him from the upcoming Ramayana project, AR Rahman released a video clarifying his stand. In the message, he emphasised that his words were never meant to hurt sentiments or divide people.

“India is my inspiration, my teacher and my home. I understand that intentions can sometimes be misunderstood, but my purpose has always been to uplift, honour and serve through music. I have never wished to cause pain and I hope my sincerity is felt,” Rahman said.

Rahman also expressed his gratitude towards India and reaffirmed his commitment to creating music that unites people, once again underlining that his journey has always been driven by love, respect and artistic integrity.

Currently, he is working on Telugu film, Peddi, starring Ram Charan.
