The recent Hindi blockbuster “Dhurandhar” has entered the elite club of Indian films that have crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark at the worldwide box office, becoming only the ninth Indian movie to achieve the feat. Interestingly, this exclusive list is dominated by Telugu films such as “Pushpa 2,” “Baahubali 2,” and “RRR.” Even after three weeks, “Dhurandhar” continues to mint money at an impressive pace.
There is now strong buzz that “Dhurandhar,” starring Ranveer Singh, could challenge the record set by Allu Arjun’s “Pushpa 2.” Directed by Sukumar, “Pushpa 2” created history with its Hindi version alone collecting a massive Rs 812 crore nett in India. A Telugu film dubbed into Hindi emerging as the all-time highest-grossing Hindi film is a phenomenal and still-unmatched achievement.
For a while, Bollywood filmmakers hoped that films like “Chhaava”and “Saiyyaraa” might breach the Pushpa 2 record, but both fell short. Now, “Dhurandhar” appears to be the strongest contender yet. However, reaching that landmark will not be easy.
While “Dhurandhar” has far exceeded expectations and stunned the trade with its box office performance so far, it still needs sustained momentum to touch the mammoth “Pushpa 2” milestone. The film must earn another Rs 162 crore nett in India to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. Whether it can show the required long run at the box office remains to be seen.
Take a look at the collections of Pushpa 2 and Dhurandhar.
