Actress Ritika Nayak, who recently tasted success with “Mirai,” is gearing up for the release of “Korean Kanakaraju,” starring Varun Tej. The film is set to hit theatres on August 7. At a recent press meet, Rithika spoke about her role, working with Varun Tej, and what makes the film special.
What attracted you to Korean Kanakaraju?
The Korea backdrop and chance to head to South Korea were the first things that caught my attention (Laughs). I’ve always been fascinated by Korean culture, movies, and dramas. More importantly, the character I play has several traits that I can personally relate to.
This isn’t a routine commercial heroine’s role. It’s a unique character, and I believe audiences will connect with her. She is an independent and modern young woman, and it’s the most contemporary role I’ve played so far.
How was your experience working with Varun Tej?
Varun Tej is extremely hardworking and dedicated to his craft. During our recent patchwork schedule, he continued shooting despite being injured. He worked from 9 a.m. until 3 a.m., which shows his commitment. It was a wonderful experience working with him.
How is Korean Kanakaraju different from other horror-comedies?
The concept is very fresh. We’ve seen many horror-comedies, but this film stands out because it blends Indian and Korean cultural elements in an entertaining way. It’s a complete entertainer with plenty of comedy. Satya’s role is one of the biggest highlights, and his comic timing will leave audiences in splits.
Would you like to work in other language films?
I’m waiting for the right script. If a good opportunity comes my way, I’d definitely love to work in other languages.
Having said that, Telugu cinema will always be my first priority because it’s my home industry. Audiences here have supported me in films like Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam, Hi Nanna, and Mirai. I want to continue doing meaningful roles, irrespective of the language.
Can you share an update on Mirai 2 and your upcoming projects?
The pre-production work for “Mirai 2” is currently underway, but it’s too early to reveal any details. Besides that, I’m also working on another Telugu film. It’s an exciting project, and the official announcement will be made soon.
