After the bifurcation of the state, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh had declared Amaravathi (Vijayawada – Guntur city region) as the new capital city since Hyderabad went to Telangana. However, when YS Jagan Mohan Reddy assumed office as the new CM, he had declared Vishakapatnam as the executive capital city. Amaravathi and Kurnool will serve as the legislative and judicial capital cities respectively. But farmers of Amaravathi are opposing this move.
