Day 1: ‘Raju Weds Rambai’ posts the better numbers

Tejaswi Rao

This Friday saw the release of Raj Tarun’s “Paanch Minar,” Priyadarshi’s “Premante,” and Allari Naresh’s “12A Railway Colony.” Despite their popularity, none of these well-known actors managed to draw notable openings for their films.

Surprisingly, it was “Raju Weds Rambai,” featuring two newcomers, that posted the strongest first-day numbers. The love story, driven by an emotional climax, opened better than expected for its scale and performed well across centers on Day 1.

Newcomers Akhil Uddemari and Tejaswi Rao, who played the titular roles, benefited from effective promotional efforts undertaken by the team. As a result, “Raju Weds Rambai” emerged as the audience’s top pick this weekend.

Allari Naresh’s “12A Railway Colony” was a total dud. “Premante” saw cancellations at the theaters. It was biggest flop for Priyadarshi and producer Jhnavi Narang.

Once again, the trend reiterates that the box office remains completely unpredictable. No one can foresee which film will take the lead on opening day.
