Once the undisputed number-one producer in the Telugu film industry, Dil Raju is now struggling to deliver even a decent hit. His only notable success in recent years was Venkatesh’s “Sankranthiki Vastunnam.” While he has several projects lined up with mid-range stars, most are grappling with budget constraints.
One such project is “Yellamma,” the next directorial venture from Venu Yeldandi after the acclaimed Balagam.
Initially, Nani was roped in as the lead, but he exited for reasons best known to him. Nithiin later stepped in, but his recent back-to-back flops have dented both his theatrical and non-theatrical market value.
This has left Dil Raju in a quandary over the film’s budget. Although he trusts Venu Yeldandi’s storytelling and believes in the project, Nithiin’s current market phase is forcing a serious re-evaluation of production costs.
Meanwhile, Dil Raju is also trying to secure films with Allu Arjun and Prabhas, but their packed schedules mean such collaborations may only happen a couple of years down the line.
With “Balagam,” actor-turned-director Venu Yeldandi showcased remarkable skill in portraying human relationships and capturing Telangana’s rural life with authenticity, free from the superficiality often seen in films made by Andhra filmmakers. Continuing in the same vein, Venu is now working on a story centered around the local deity Yellamma, revered and worshipped by villagers.
