The long-running debate over the percentage system in single-screen theaters has resurfaced ahead of the release of “Peddi”, starring Ram Charan.

Although a committee comprising producers, distributors, and exhibitors was recently formed to study and recommend a long-term solution regarding the percentage-sharing model, exhibitors are now seeking interim relief starting with “Peddi”, which is scheduled for release on June 4, 2026.

Since the committee is expected to submit its final report only after two months, theater owners are demanding a revenue-sharing model even for big-ticket films like “Peddi”. They are reportedly asking producers to provide a written commitment before the film’s release.

According to industry sources, producers have proposed a rental model along with an additional 7.5 percent share, while discussions are still ongoing and a final decision is expected soon.

“Peddi” is carrying massive buzz and is expected to open to huge collections worldwide. If the film turns into a blockbuster, exhibitors believe the revenue potential will be enormous.

The Telugu film industry has not witnessed a major blockbuster since Chiranjeevi’s “Mana Shankara Vara Prasad”, which released in January 2026. Hence, exhibitors are keen not to miss out on a share of the potential windfall from “Peddi”.
