iBomma pirated 21,000 films, says police commissioner Sajjanar
The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police arrested techie Immadi Ravi on Saturday for running one of the country’s largest film piracy networks. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar identified Ravi as the key operator behind the notorious piracy platform iBomma.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Sajjanar said Ravi had been running an elaborate piracy setup for several years. He operated 65 mirror websites, launching a new domain each time authorities blocked one.
During the raid, police seized hard drives containing 21,000 pirated films, ranging from classics to recent releases such as OG. Sajjanar said Ravi earned nearly 20 crore rupees through illegal streaming and downloads, and investigators have recovered 3 crore rupees so far.
Ravi also held data belonging to about 50 lakh subscribers, which the police described as a major cybersecurity threat.
