Superstar Rajinikanth will star in Lokesh Kanagaraju’s next flick, “Coolie”. The title was confirmed by the makers, who also released a teaser featuring Rajinikanth in a vintage mass avatar.
The teaser for “Coolie” included not only Rajinikanth, his swag, and his dialogues, but also a song composed by Anirudh Ravichander. However, the teaser has now run into trouble, as legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja has submitted a legal notice to production studio Sun Pictures for using his song.
Ilaiyaraaja composed the song “Vaa Vaa Pakkam Vaa” for the Tamil film Thanga Magan (1983), in which Rajinikanth played the protagonist. The song was featured in the title announcement teaser for “Coolie.”
Ilaiyaraaja says that the makers of “Coolie” not only did not obtain his permission to use the music, but also broke copyright laws. We’ll have to wait and see how this issue is fixed. The movie will begin regular shooting later this year.
