Kamal Haasan has refused to apologize to Kannadigas for his remark that “Kannada was born out of Tamil.” He clarified that his statement was not intended with malice and was simply misunderstood.

“An apology is needed when there is malice, not for a misunderstanding,” Kamal Haasan’s lawyer stated in court.

As the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has declined to allow the screening of Thug Life unless Kamal Haasan issues an apology, the actor-producer has decided not to release the film in the state.

As a result, “Thug Life” will not be released in Karnataka in any language—Tamil or Kannada.
