Mythri Movie Makers, the leading production house in the Telugu film industry, produced two high-profile movies in Tamil and Bollywood, both of which were released in theaters on the same day—April 10. But the results were completely different from each other.
“Good Bad Ugly,” the Tamil film starring Ajith Kumar, turned out to be a super hit. While their Bollywood production “Jaat,” starring Sunny Deol, became a flop.
70 Cr loss on Jaat
According to our sources, “Jaat,” which was directed by our Telugu filmmaker Gopichand Malineni, was rejected by Hindi audiences, and the film will make a minimum of Rs 70 crore loss for the production company. Sunny Deol agreed to act in this film after the massive success of “Gadar 2,” as producers Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers offered him a record remuneration. He took Rs 60 Cr remuneration upfront, a first time in his career.
The film was made on a regular budget, and the OTT deals were secured. But the theatrical business was a disaster. So, the production house will lose more than Rs 70 crore.
Good Bad Ugly, modest success
Ajith Kumar’s “Good Bad Ugly” is a big hit in Tamil Nadu. But the film’s overall success, given its budget and Ajith’s remuneration, didn’t bring much profit to the production company. Overall, it is a mixed result for Mythri Movie Makers.
