Legendary Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023. The honor, regarded as the highest recognition in Indian cinema, will be presented during the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2023.
With a career spanning over four decades, Mohanlal has acted in more than 400 films, primarily in Malayalam, while also appearing in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Telugu cinema. His notable Telugu outings include Janatha Garage, Manamantha, Kannappa, and a special appearance in Gaandivam.
Mohanlal made his screen debut in 1980 with “Manjil Virinja Pookkal,” where he played the antagonist. He soon transitioned into lead roles, delivering several industry blockbusters such as “Narasimham”, “Drishyam”, “Pulimurugan”, “Lucifer”, “L2” and “Thudram”.
Over the years, he has won two National Awards for Best Actor and continues to be celebrated as one of Indian cinema’s greatest performers.
PM Modi took to X to congratulate Mohanlal.
He wrote, “Shri Mohanlal Ji epitomises excellence and versatility. With a rich body of work spanning decades, he stands as a leading light of Malayalam cinema, theatre and is deeply passionate about the culture of Kerala. He has also delivered remarkable performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films. His cinematic and theatrical brilliance across mediums is truly inspiring. Congratulations to him on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. May his accomplishments continue to inspire generations to come.”
