Naga Chaitanya asserts that, despite not achieving huge box office successes recently, the market for his films has remained stable. He is convinced that he can achieve massive success by creating films that are content-rich, produced on a grand scale, and have extensive world-building and visually striking elements.
Worldbuilding in Telugu cinema has emerged as a trend. “Baahubali” launched this trend, prompting the production of several major films in a similar manner. Even mid-range and upcoming actors such as Sai Dharam Tej, Kiran Abbavaram, and Teja Sajja achieved significant success with films that have world-building narratives, including “Virupaksha,” “Ka,” and “Hanu Man,” respectively.
Consequently, Naga Chaitanya is adhering to the same trend, commencing with “Thandel.”
Chandoo Mondeti’s “Thandel” revolves around the arrest of a fisherman by Pakistani officials for violating international borders. Extensive sets and visual effects create the realm of Pakistan and the maritime ambiance. The film is currently the costliest in Naga Chaitanya’s career.
Naga Chaitanya is ready to start his next project, which will also rely on a world-building narrative. Karthik Varma Dandu, renowned for ‘Virupaksha,’ will helm this film. Reports indicate that Sreeleela will play the primary female lead. The budget for this film, which features a unique narrative within the mythological thriller genre, is Rs 110 crore. Rs 30 crore of this amount goes toward visual effects. Producer BVSN Prasad will produce this film in partnership with Sukumar Writings.
These two films prove that Naga Chaitanya has shifted focus towards world-building narratives from acting in simple movies.
