Pavala Shyamala passes away at 75; dies in penury

Veteran Telugu actress Pavala Shyamala, known for her character roles and impeccable comic timing, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday after battling prolonged health issues. She was 75.

According to doctors at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad, the actress suffered a massive heart attack and breathed her last at 1:52 AM on July 28 while undergoing treatment. Her mortal remains have been kept in the hospital mortuary.

Pavala Shyamala had been facing severe financial difficulties and age-related health complications in recent years. Her daughter, who lived with and cared for her, is also reportedly battling serious health problems. The veteran actress’s tragic final years have left the Telugu film industry and her admirers deeply saddened.

Born in 1951 in Andhra Pradesh, Pavala Shyamala’s original name was Nethi Shyamala. She made her Telugu film debut with “Babai Abbai” in 1985 and earned recognition with “Swarna Kamalam,” directed by K. Viswanath. She later delivered memorable performances in films such as “Khadgam,” directed by Krishna Vamsi. “Golimaar” was another popular film.

The actress became widely known as “Pavala Shyamala” after portraying the popular character “Pavala” in “Andhrawala,” directed by Puri Jagannadh. Over the years, she carved a niche for herself with her natural performances and distinctive comic style, appearing in numerous Telugu films.

Her death in penury is a stark reminder that not every film celebrity enjoys financial security, and many struggle through difficult circumstances in their final years.
