Rana Daggubati founded Spirit Media has acquired the exclusive rights to distribute Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light in India. Fresh off its celebrated victory at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, where it clinched the Grand Prix – the first Indian film to win this accolade, All We Imagine as Light is already creating waves as a top contender for the Academy Award for Best International Film.
“After garnering love from audiences at festivals abroad, we are thrilled to bring Payal’s ‘All We Imagine as Light’ to Indian viewers,” said Rana Daggubati. “Our partnership with this incredible film is a step forward in our efforts to bring compelling and moving stories from different parts of the country to audiences everywhere.”
Daggubati and Spirit Media have been a strong supporter of Indian independent films, including the award-winning movies Bommalata, C/o Kancharapalem, Charlie777, and, most recently, the independent Telugu film 35 – Chinna Katha. With All We Imagine as Light, Spirit Media continues to bring compelling and diverse stories to Indian audiences.
Directed by Payal Kapadia, All We Imagine as Light is an evocative film that captures the intertwined lives of two women in Mumbai. Nurse Prabha’s routine is upended when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband, reigniting old emotions. Meanwhile, her younger roommate, Anu, faces the frustration of finding privacy in the crowded city to be with her boyfriend. Their journey for solace takes them to a peaceful beach town, where they finally find the space for their desires to unfold.
Payal Kapadia said, “This film is about friendship between three different women and oftentimes women are pitted against each other, but for me friendship is a very important relationship because it can lead to greater solidarity, inclusivity and empathy towards each other.”
