Rukmini Vasanth emerges as new frontrunner for Subbulakshmi biopic

Rising Kannada actress Rukmini Vasanth is reportedly being considered to play legendary singer M. S. Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri.
The project, backed by Geetha Arts, initially generated buzz when Sai Pallavi was linked to the role, largely due to her strong classical dance background. However, recent reports suggest that Sai Pallavi has stepped away from the film, with Rukmini Vasanth now emerging as a strong contender.
Social media reactions have been mixed. While many fans feel Rukmini’s graceful screen presence and poise align well with Subbulakshmi’s iconic persona seen in archival images, others believe Sai Pallavi would have been a more fitting choice.
The film is a prestigious project centered on the life of M.S. Subbulakshmi, the legendary Carnatic vocalist and the first musician to be honored with the Bharat Ratna.
Director Gowtam Tinnanuri has reportedly been focusing on this biopic following the underperformance of Kingdom, which starred Vijay Deverakonda.
Meanwhile, Rukmini Vasanth is also part of a high-profile project, starring alongside NTR Jr. in Dragon, directed by Prashanth Neel.
